RSS vs. RDF

Can someone (Greg) please give me a good explanation of the difference between RSS and RDF? I especially would like to know if functionality-wise there are any differences.

As far as you are concerned (as a blog reader) they are pretty much the same.

RDF, however, is a whole technology based on semantic web priciples, and has some very, very cool, useful and extremely boring, applications. RSS is really much more simplistic, and adds a bit of confusion to the mix.

There is also Atom, by the way, which is a newer format that offers the same basics, but provides a bit better framework in terms of resolving some of the ambiguities in the RSS 2.0 specification.

It would help me better to understand if I knew why you are interested in this - is it for your blog, or for something for work? Email me if you like.
