Greg Iles is one of my favorite authors. I just finished reading The Footprints of God and it is amazing how much research the man must do to prepare to write such a book. His ideas on quantam computing are pretty incredible and the way he presents them makes one feel like the technology really could be out there in some secret government lab right now. What really got me with this book was the way he combined the very advanced technology with the philosphical and ethical aspects of creating such technologies. The underlying point throughout the book is that just because we may have the ability to create something doesn't mean that we neccesarily should do so. I think this is a lesson that many in the world of advanced science forget.

Also, for the theme of the Iles book, see every other book about science and religion ever written for other examples of this.
